Students in the Core Photography program learn to think about framing, composition, lighting and the way emotions and stories can be portrayed through a photograph. Photographers learn technical skills in the workings of their cameras, editing in Photoshop and Lightroom, and studio lighting, as well as techniques for working with subjects. Much of their time is spent practicing their skills in the field through a variety of assignments, with an overriding goal of capturing people and places that make up a unique city. 3-week students also learn to integrate text and graphics and advanced compositing techniques as they create a movie poster or album cover for display at the final showcase. With a focus on digital photography, students begin their week with an in-depth lesson in the workings of their digital camera. From there, students move quickly out of the classroom and into the field on Photo Safaris. Instructors take the students on field trips to interesting areas of the city where they will complete a variety of photography assignments, including landscapes and street portraits. The program culminates in learning professional photo re-touching in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
